These steering tubes usually break from crash damage. The adjustable end near the wheel is usually the end that breaks first preventing further damage to steering and servo parts. That damaged adjustable end is made from a gray frangible alloy or mixed ceramic. The tube is easily replaced. Installation Tip: Measure the exposed threads on the tube before removal. On the replacement tube, adjust the ends to the same thread lengths. After replacement, keep the damaged tube with the unbroken end. If you break another tube end, use the unbroken end on the newly broken tube. You just saved some money.
